F. A. Q. (Frequently Asked Questions –also known as -the important information you need to know the Impact Fargo Event)

When and where does registration begin?

Registration will take place at First UMC Fargo, 906 1st Ave S., Fargo, ND 58103 from 2:00-3:00pm, Sunday, July 28, 2024.  We will not be unloading any luggage at First UMC, so please leave your luggage in your vehicle.  Enter the main doors from the parking lot and go up the stairs on the left to find the registration area.

Where are we staying?

Fargo First UMC is our host church. We are finishing up the lodging and shower situation but rest assured as soon as it is finalized we will update all participants. In the past years we have stayed at Oak Grove School and are hopeful that this partnership will happen again.

What forms do I need to bring?

You must bring with you signed and filled out all the forms (that were not mailed with the registration check) within this packet, so that you can participate fully with all the organizations.

What should I bring?

Bring your positive attitude, a mind ready to learn and discover, a heart for helping others, your hands ready to be useful, a readiness to make new friends and the things included on the packing list in this welcome packet. Do not bring; expensive personal items, electronics/computers, drugs, alcohol, weapons, a crummy attitude, food, live or dead animals.

Do I need to bring money?
You will likely need some cash for meals en-route to and from the event. During the event, everything is covered including 3 meals and a snack each day. Several of the places we are headed in the evening serve concessions. We cannot guarantee the security of any money you may bring along.

What about my prescription medications?

Please talk to your adult leader from your home church and make sure they know what you have and why you need it.  They will be responsible for making sure you get your meds as required and keeping them safe.

Is there a T-Shirt for this event?

Yes! All participants will be receiving a t-shirt during registration on Sunday, July 28.

Can I have my cell phone?

Yes and no.  The last thing we want is a lost, broken or stolen phone, or that you are so absorbed in your phone that you miss out on meeting new friends and serving others, so during the day while we are volunteering all over the community, youth cell phones will be put in a safe locked location.  Adult volunteers will take photos and have phones for emergencies.  During the evening, when we are back at the sleeping location, those youth who would like to use their phone may do so.

Where will we be working?

You and your group will be working at multiple different places throughout your time in Fargo. Everyone will work at the Great Plains Food Bank and River Keepers. The remaining work slots are with a variety of other organizations like: Rebuilding Together, New Life Center, Boys and Girls Ranch, Churches United for the Homeless, thrift stores, serving meals etc.

Will I be with my friends?

Yes.  We will try and make sure that you have at least 1 person you know in your small working group…plus by the end of our time we hope you will have made all kinds of new friends.  During meals and evening activities you will be able to hang out with whomever you choose.

What are the evening activities?

We are still working out details on some of this but tentatively you can look forward to… poverty simulation, pool party, roller skating and something else.

What are we eating?

Food…obviously.  More specifically:  breakfast at 8am; lunch at 12pm, dinner at 5pm; and snacks.

What does the schedule look like?

Our schedule Monday-Wednesday will follow this pattern:  7:45am depart for First UMC; 8am breakfast, 8:30am devotions, 9am volunteer sites, 12pm lunch, 1pm volunteer sites, 4pm hang out at First UMC, 5pm dinner, 6-8ishpm evening fun, 10pm lights out

Where/when will we shower?
